PRINCE OF PEACE
"A child is born to us! A son is given to us! He will be called Prince of Peace."
- Isaiah 9:6
If you think about all that happens while Jesus was alive, this name seems sort of funny. Usually, when we think about peace, we think of not having conflicts and there being calm and admiration. This was not usually the case when Jesus was doing his ministry.
Jesus challenged the way people thought about God and how they could worship and love God. Jesus changed the way people treated others- especially those different from those who went to the synagogue. When He did this, it wasn't very peaceful. People were yelling and fighting about whether Jesus' way was right or wrong. Doesn't sound very peaceful does it?
Well, The Prince of Peace has more to do each of us being at Peace with GOD. Yesterday we looked at John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life". Having peace with God means that you know Jesus is the Son of God and took the punishment for the bad things that you do from God so that you can be friends with God. Peace is not having to worry about taking the punishment from God because Jesus already did that. That is why HE IS THE PRINCE OF PEACE!
