DAY 15: Dec 14

This week as you light the candle reminding us of the Love God has for each of us, pray the following:

“Lord, as we light this candle help us to remember the Love you have for us. Forgive us for not loving others the way we should and help us to love others the way you would.”

Put the Lamb of God link on your Advent name chain.

When John the Baptist saw Jesus walking toward Him to be baptized, he cried out to the crowd,
“Look, the Lamb of God,
who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).

Do you do wrong things? Of course you do! Everyone does! The Bible tells us that “all have sinned.” Before Jesus came to earth, God instructed His people to sacrifice animals to pay the punishment for their sin. Every time a Hebrew family sacrificed a perfect lamb to God, it was like a lesson. God was teaching His people that forgiveness of sins cannot happen without the shedding of blood. That’s because the Bible says that the punishment for sin is death. Something or someone has to die to pay for sin. Because Jesus was God and could never sin, he didn’t have to be punished. Instead, He could die in our place to pay the punishment for our sins. So, when John calls Jesus “the Lamb of God,” he is telling everyone that Jesus is going to be the sacrifice for the sins of EVERYONE!!!

Jesus loves God very much and was obedient to what God asked of Him. Jesus loves us very much and was willing to do ANYTHING to make sure we could be part of God’s family. That is pretty cool.

1. How did God show us He loves us?
2. How did Jesus show His love for God?
3. How did Jesus show His love for us?
4. Who can you show love to this week? How can you show it?

This week, as we continue to look at different names of Jesus, think about the ways that He shows His love for you.
